Lovers of fruit, especially durian, didn’t want to miss the all-you-can-eat durian offer at Thailand’s Original Amazing Durian and Fruit Fest 2019 ending today at Central World shopping center in downtown Bangkok.
The event was held in two zones, namely the fruit buffet zone serving durian and mangosteen, rambutan, longan, Japanese melon, watermelon, and coconut, as well as dessert dishes such as mango with sticky rice, durian with sticky rice, mango with sweet fish sauce, and coconut milk ice-cream, all on unlimited offer.
The buffet was open in five rounds daily, at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m., 5 p.m., and 7 p.m. Customers were given 60 minutes to enjoy as much fruit as they like. A buffet ticket cost 479 baht per person per round.
The event also featured a Farmer’s Market zone selling quality seasonal Thai fruit from farmers and community enterprises, providing a channel for fruit sales from local communities from across the country.
The event this year was the 4th consecutive annual event organized by Central Food Retail, Tops Supermarket, the Department of Internal Trade, and the Tourism Authority of Thailand. All tickets were sold out, with 60% of customers being international tourists. It is estimated the event this year attracted 130,000-150,000 customers, requiring 1,500 tons of durian to be served.
The Department of Internal Trade Director General Wichai Pochanakit said the department will continue to work with Central and Tops to also hold this event in the northern region, eastern region, and southern region, until the end of fruit season to help promote product sales to more customers.
The fruit festival at Central World ended 25 April 2019 at Square B and C plaza. Special offers were available for buffet customers who could pay for the cost of four persons when they came in a group of five.
