BANGKOK, 17 January 2014 The Bank of Thailand (BoT) reports that the mass rallies in Bangkok continue to affect the operations of 44 bank branches which are located nearby.
On the fifth day of the prolonged demonstrations in many parts of the capital, 32 branches of commercial banks had to remain closed all day while another 12 could operate but opted to close early. According to the central bank, these branches are situated in the vicinities of the rally sites, such as the Government Complex, the Ministry of Finance, Government House, the Ministry of Commerce, the Royal Thai Armed Forces Headquarters and the Department of Land Transport.
Despite closures of some branches, commercial banks can still provide financial services through their ATMs as usual and no problems have been reported.
