Bidding soon for 350,000 tonnes of rice and paddy

BANGKOK, July 16 – The Commerce Ministry will open bidding on July 26 for 150,000 tonnes of rice and 200,000 tonnes of paddy, according to a senior cabinet member.

Deputy Prime Minister/Commerce Minister Niwatthamrong Boonsongpaisan said the Rice Release Subcommittee has approved the rice bidding and the Foreign Trade Department has officially announced that the first batch of 150,000 tonnes of 5 per cent milled rice and 200,000 tonnes of A-One paddy will be put for auction.

Bidders should submit their bids July 26 and an official announcement of bid winners will be made on July 29, he said, adding that price negotiations with bidders should be finished in one day.

He reaffirmed that foreign traders remain confident in the quality of Thai rice.

He said the Commerce Ministry is currently in the process of announcing bid winners for 200,000 tonnes of paddy to be processed as parboiled rice for export.
