PATHUM THANI, Dec 10 – The Nava Nakhon Industrial Estate in Pathum Thani has set its big cleaning days from December 14 to 16 after flooding has completely dried, said ACM Nopporn  Chandawanich, Board Member of Nava Nakhon, Thailand’s first industrial promotion zone.

So far, several of the 227 factories in the industrial estate have already resumed operations after they were hit by flood which began on October 17, he said.

Meanwhile, Pornsak Juthakarn, head of the Provincial Electricity Authority of Rangsit said that 187 factories submitted requests for electricity supply which has resumed operations for 87 plants so far.

Demand for electricity accounted for 20 percent of power demand before flooding. However, he said the demand is like to rise to 50 percent of previous demand by January before returning to normal levels in April 2012 when all plants are expected to resume output.

Nava Nakhon Industrial Estate is located on 6,500 rai (about 2,600 acres) of land, encompassing 227 plants with an investment value of 200 billion baht.  The total workforce numbers approximately 170,000.

Nava Nakhon is one of seven industrial estates affected by Thailand’s worst flooding in decades.
