BYD, in collaboration with Rêver Automotive Co., Ltd., has officially opened an electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing plant in the WHA Rayong 36 Industrial Estate.
This is BYD’s first plant in Thailand, aiming to establish the country as the EV hub of ASEAN. The plant will produce right-hand drive electric vehicles and will introduce new electric and plug-in hybrid models.
Additionally, BYD has delivered its 8 millionth new energy vehicle, the BYD DOLPHIN, to the Mae Fah Luang Foundation under Royal Patronage.
The plant covers over 948,000 square meters, took 16 months to construct, and has a maximum production capacity of 150,000 vehicles per year. It will also produce key components such as batteries and power systems. The opening of this plant is expected to create over 10,000 jobs.
Wang Chuanfu, Chairman and President of BYD Group, said that BYD has been well-received since entering the Thai market just two years ago, successfully becoming the leader in electric vehicle sales for 18 consecutive months.
In the future, BYD plans to launch more 100% electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids in Thailand. The company will combine local manufacturing excellence with BYD’s advanced new energy technologies to further strengthen the relationship between China and Thailand. (TNA)
