BANGKOK, 11 July 2012 – The cabinet yesterday approved the State Railway of Thailand (SRT)’s proposal to build a double-track railway from the eastern province of Chachoengsao to Kaeng Khoi in Saraburi, estimated to be worth 11.3 billion baht.
Deputy Government Spokesperson Pakdiharn Himathongkham said rail bypasses at three railway junctions will be built in conjunction with the 106-kilometer double-track connecting Chachoengsao and Kaeng Khoi with the budget of 11.348 billion baht.
The Finance Ministry has been assigned by the cabinet to set aside state budgets and secure additional loans to fund the construction of the railway as well as the land reclamation and concession-bidding processes.
Mr Pakdiharn elaborated that the SRT may propose an additional budget for the construction project at a later cabinet meeting if the construction cost proves higher than the original bid.
