BANGKOK, 30 July 2012 – The Cabinet today agreed to extend the tax rebate measure for first-time car buyers until the end of this year.

Government Spokesperson Sansanee Nakpong disclosed that the deadlines for the submission of supporting documents and car delivery under the first-car scheme have been extended indefinitely. Buyers, however, are only eligible to claim the tax refund if they complete the ownership transfers by December 31, 2012, or within 90 days after delivery.

The spokesperson elaborated that first-time car buyers must present copies of their original documents to their local excise offices from today until the year-end. Additional documents, which include receipts and proof of transaction, need to be filed within 90 days after the delivery date.

Those who fail to submit their documents within the specified timeframe will lose their rights to claim the tax benefit from the scheme.

Under the scheme, the maximum tax rebate allowed is 100,000 baht per car.
