One of the largest shopping destinations in Thailand, CentralWorld, recently hosted a “World Heritage Journey” event in the hope of triggering tourism to ancient provinces.

Presiding over the opening ceremony May 25, Deputy Governor of Phetchaburi province Worapoj Waewsingngam said tourism is the main source of income for Thailand and its people.

During the past 2-3 years, the central province of Phetchaburi has seen an increase in the number of tourists, partly because the city has been promoted as one of the twelve must-see provinces in Thailand.

The province has a lot to offer for those interested in history and culture, housing a number of Buddhist temples and natural attractions.

Realizing the importance of PR in the tourism industry, the Phetchaburi Tourism and Sports Office and its allies hosted the “World Heritage Journey” event at CentralWorld in central Bangkok to promote four historic cities, namely Ayutthaya, Sukhothai, Si Thep of Phetchaburi, and Luang Prabang in Laos.

Ending May 27, the event featured an exhibition on the four ancient sites, a photo zone, a performance zone where visitors could enjoy traditional and cultural shows, and a product zone that offered a wide variety of locally-made items including handicraft products and food specialties.
