BANGKOK, July 8 – The Chana power plant resumed electricity generation after maintenance of the facility was completed.
The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) said that the Chana plant in Songkhla province resumed electricity generation at 5.15am today as the Malaysia-Thailand Joint Development Area started to supply gas to the facility again at 4am after its gas production facility maintenance had been done ahead of the scheduled readiness on Thursday.
EGAT said the maintenance necessitated the stoppage of the 700-megawatt plant but local residents and commercial customers in the South reduced their power use and helped prevent blackouts in the region.
The peak power demand in the South dropped from the anticipated level of 2,450 megawatts to 2,315.8 megawatts during the maintenance period.
Despite the resumed generation at the plant, the South continues to depend on partial power transmission from the Central Plain.
