BANGKOK, 3 September 2014  – Permanent Secretary for Commerce Chutima Bunyapraphasara has expressed confidence there will be no problems when the new Commerce Minister begins his duty, citing his capability and experience.

As Gen Chatchai Sarikalya has been appointed Minister of Commerce, Ms Chutima estimated that he will come to work at the ministry some time next week following the swear-in ceremony and the delivery of policy statement.

Ahead of Gen Chatchai’s arrival, the Permanent Secretary said a number of urgent issues have been compiled from each department in order to present them to the new minister. The Department of Internal Trade is prepared to bring to the table several issues concerning the cost of living while the Department of Foreign Trade will focus on trade agreements made between Thailand and partner countries.

Based on her past experience working with Gen Chatchai, Ms Chutima lauded him as a highly efficient worker, with sound knowledge of his responsibilities and leadership quality. She thus expected him to excel in his new role as Commerce Minister.
