BANGKOK, 10 September 2013 Commerce Minister Niwatthamrong Boonsongpaisan has confirmed that prices of most commodity products still remain unchanged while criticizing the media for misleading the market by frequently reporting on expensive goods.

The minister said on Tuesday the government was keeping a close watch on the cost of living after utility prices increased. He insisted that most products were still sold at the same prices. Nonetheless, he has instructed the Department of Internal trade to closely monitor prices of eggs which recently adjusted up.

Despite the egg price rise, the minister said prices of chicken and instant food remained stable but they might increase if the media kept reporting about product price hikes.

Meanwhile, Director-General of the Department of Internal Trade Wiboonlak Ruamrak said the department was hoping to organize Blue Flag fairs nationwide within this week in order to offer eggs to consumers at discounted prices. Ms Wiboonlak added that she believed egg prices would drop in two weeks as the previous price hike was caused by a shortage of supply induced by rapidly changing weather conditions.
