BANGKOK, 10 February 2014 The Ministry of Commerce has sought a meeting with financial institutions in hopes to persuade them to provide loans for the rice support program.
Deputy Minister of Commerce Nuttawut Saikua said Commerce Minister Niwatthamrong Boonsongpaisarn would soon meet with executives of financial institutions on the ministry’s plan to borrow them to pay rice farmers. Mr Nuttawut said farmer protesters would be allowed to attend the meeting so that they would learn about problems in paying them.
Finance Minister Kittiratt Na-Ranong was ready to sign document to make financial institutions confident to lend the government, the deputy minister added.
