BANGKOK, 16 July 2013 The National Energy Policy Committee (NEPC) has resolved to raise the retail price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in the household sector by 50 satang per liter from September 1 onwards.
The meeting of the NEPC, which was presided over by Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, agreed that the cooking gas price will be gradually lifted by 50 satang every month from September until it reaches 24.82 baht per kilogram. The price hike has earlier been delayed for several months by the Energy Ministry.
The LPG price will be raised from 18.13 baht per kilogram, at which it has been capped since 2007.
The agency has also approved a direct subsidy program to assist low-income households and food vendors in tandem with the price increases. Targeted households will be able to buy 6 kilograms of LPG at the current price of 18.13 baht per kilogram every month, while food vendors will be able to buy up to 150 kilograms each month at the same rate.
