BANGKOK, 5 July 2012 – Deputy Minister of Finance Tanusak Lek-uthai has assigned the Customs Department to get ready for the ASEAN Community by adjusting its working system and eliminating obstacles to cross-border trade.
Speaking at the celebration of the Customs Department’s 138th anniversary, Mr. Tanusak said with the AEC approaching, the Customs Department, as a primary institution in charge of trade facilitation and taxation, has to immediately adjust its working standard to the international level, provide faster trade services, and eliminate obstacles to cross-border trade. In delivering his policy, Mr. Tanusak said the Customs Department will need to develop its staff and apply the right technology to current situations in order to ensure Thailand’s competitiveness in the international arena as well as prevent and suppress unauthorized or smuggled products that could jeopardize the public and environment.
He stressed the need for the Customs Department to adopt the concept of “Quality staff, Modern law, and Advanced technology” by improving its employees’ potentials simultaneously with obtaining modern technologies.
