DEP aims 3% rise for Thai exports to Africa

BANGKOK, 21 June 2011 -The Department of Export Promotion (DEP) is determined to increase export volumes in Africa particularly with farm products, food and construction materials from Thailand. 

Director-General of the DEP Ms. Nantawan Sakultanak said she expected the export to Africa to increase by 3%, accounted for 7.4 billion US dollars, by this year end. She added that in the latter half of this year the DEP would hold a trade show to provide market information and business strategy for Thai exporters.

The focus of this event is also about establishing a distribution center for Thai products in Cape Town, South Africa, which will be open in November. According to Ms. Nantawan, the demand for communication devices and other technological equipments have spiked in recent years.

Other Thai products expected to penetrate African market consist of rice, auto parts, canned sea food and processed food, radio, television, plastic and tires. Interested exporters can contact www.depthai.go.th or call 1169.
