DPM Somkid asks Min of Transport to speed up infrastructure projects

Deputy Prime Minister in charge of economic affairs Somkid Jatusripitak, has asked the Ministry of Transport to speed up budget disbursements for mega infrastructure projects.

Somkid paid a visit to the Ministry of Transport on Friday and asked ministry officials to initiate infrastructure development projects as soon as possible. He expects more than 90 percent of the ministry’s budget to be disbursed by the end of year.

He also asked responsible authorities to look into the possibility of a high-speed train project linking Bangkok, Rayong, and Hua Hin, adding that Japan, China, and South Korea have each expressed keen interest in investing in the project.

He went on to disclose that the Ministry of Finance is working closely with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in order to set up an infrastructure fund that could amass up to 100 billion baht for infrastructure development.
