BANGKOK, 31 May 2013 — Mr. Sahas Prataknukul, CEO of the Electricity Generating Public Company Limited (EGCO) has estimated the company’s net profit in the second quarter of this year at 6.27 billion baht, a 21% increase from the same period of last year.

He explained that the projection is based on the company’s acquisitions of 2 solar power plants, and the Quezon Power Plant in the Philippines.

Mr. Sahas boasted that the company is also pushing for acquisitions of power plants in Macau and Hong Kong, saying that the deals would be concluded within the second or third quarter of this year. He disclosed that another deal to construct a wind power plant in Australia is underway and the result of negotiations is likely to be concluded within the third quarter.

When completed, the Australian power plant would provide Thailand with more than 100 megawatts of electricity. The construction is expected to take a little over a year, at the cost of 100 million US dollars, and would start generating income by 2015.
