BANGKOK, 13 August 2013 Energy Minister Pongsak Raktapongpaisarn has confirmed that all people affected by the recent oil spill in Rayong province will be compensated.
Mr Pongsak on Tuesday revealed that a fact-finding committee which had been looking into the oil spill accident would conclude its investigation on 14 August 2013. On concerns over compensation fraud, the minister said those entitled to compensation would be thoroughly checked, affirming that all of them would receive the money.
The Cabinet had assigned relevant units to study the setting up of an oil spill liability trust fund in detail again and decide which unit should manage the fund, the minister said. Concession holders in the petroleum oil business are expected to be responsible for the fund’s finances.
