BANGKOK, 4 September 2013 Energy Minister Pongsak Raktapongpaisarn has dismissed the rumor that the national energy firm PTT benefits from the LPG price increase in the household sector.

Mr Pongsak on Wednesday said the government still maintained the LPG price at gas separation plants at 333 USD a ton and PTT had to subsidize the price until it reached 24.82 baht a kilogram in order to reflect the production cost. The subsidization has therefore incurred losses to the company.

As for protesters’ demand that the minister and PTT join in a debate on the gas price hike this September 9, Mr Pongsak said he was not in the position to debate and suggested that they invite trustworthy academics instead.
