BANGKOK, 15 October 2013 The Energy Policy and Planning Office (EPPO)is reducing the Oil fund levy for Diesel to 0.60 Baht in light of increasing oil prices in the global market.

According to Mr. Suthep Liumsirijarern, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, the global oil prices have lately increased, causing the market margin to drop to 1.10 baht/liter for diesel, 1.43 baht/liter for benzine, 1.37 Baht/liter for gasohol 95, and 1.40 baht/liter for gasohol 91.

The EPPO committee has therefore, decided to reduce the Oil Fund levy for diesel from 1 baht/liter to 0.60 baht/liter, which will help cap diesel retail price at under 30 baht/liter. However, the amounts of levy for other categories will remain unchanged.

The reduction will cause a drop of the Oil Fund’s income by 21 million baht a day , resulting in the Fund being 7 million baht a day in the red, given its current daily income is 13 million baht. However, the overall status of the fund remains positive. As of October 13, 2013, the Oil fund was 5.7 billion baht in the black.
