BANGKOK, 3 May 2011 – The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has decided to increase the energy adjustment charge (Ft) by 8.93 satang per unit for the next billing period during May-August upon the rising production cost of electricity.
Secretary-General of the ERC Kawin Thangsupanich stated that the Ft rate for the next billing period from May to August had been raised by the commission by 8.93 satang per unit to stand at 95.81 satang per unit.
Based on the calculation, the net electricity cost for consumers thus rises to 3.23 THB per unit. The adjustment was prompted by the surging price of fuel as well as the baht depreciation and the lower-than-expected power consumption.
Mr Kawin pointed out that, in fact, the increase should have been 13.78 satang per unit; however, the ERC reduced it to 8.93 satang as it wanted to minimize the burden on the public on top of the skyrocketing prices of commodities and other forms of energy, which had resulted from the high inflation rate.
