BANGKOK, 17 July 2011 – According to the Department of Trade Negotiations, the European Union (EU) has decided to increase the quota of tax-free sugar import from Thailand by 200,000 tons.
With the increase in sugar prices in the global market last year, Europe has been facing sugar shortage. In March this year, the region has released 500,000 tons of regular sugar and 26,000 tons of Isoglucose in its reserve stock.
An additional amount of sugar has been imported to Europe from Thailand between 1 July and 30 September 2011 to help alleviate the sugar shortage in Europe.
