BANGKOK, 22 June 2015, Former Finance Minister Tanong Pitaya has predicted that gross domestic product (GDP) growth during the latter half of 2015 would reach 3-4 percent.
Mr. Tanong said the figure can be achieved by greater public investment, depreciation of the Thai baht and the low benchmark rate.
However, he is concerned about the rural economy, which has yet to show any sign of recovery. Mr. Tanong attributed the sluggish rural economy to this year’s severe drought and lack of strong economic stimulus for rural areas.
The former Finance Minister urged related governmental units to address the issue.
