BANGKOK, 19 September 2011 -Director-General Banyong Limprayoonwong of the Business Development Department said franchise groups in Thailand would have a better chance in negotiating a business deal with foreigners if they form a single group.

Mr. Banyong said in the seminar held by the Department of Business Development that it was important that the three franchise groups namely The Franchise and Thai SMEs Business Association (FSA), The Thai Franchise Center and Franchise and License Association, merge and form one organization before the AEC takes shape.

The objective of the seminar is to not only improve the franchise business in Thailand but to address the issue that could be hindering the growth in this industry when the ASEAN Economic Community comes into existence.

The call for a single organization is said to be preparing 250 franchise operators in the Kingdom for the competition in 2015 since there are currently 3 of them that are also supporting franchise businesses in the country, but with the existence of all of 3 of them, they would stand to lose the business advantage when it comes to negotiations.

Meanwhile, the Director-General added that the draft law governing the franchise business had been completed, but further debate on the bill was currently taking place to make sure there would be no trade obstacles. The bill will be proposed to the Cabinet for consideration as early as the beginning of next year.
