BANGKOK 4 October, 2011  – The cabinet has agreed to extend the free bus and train service until early next year.

PM’s Office Minister Surawit Konsomboon said the free public transport service was actually due to expire on December 31. Given that most city dwellers spend their New Year holiday with families upcountry, the cabinet has decided to postpone the free bus and train project to 15 January, 2012 in order to help save travel expenses.

The service is initiated by the administration of late Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej to assist low-income earners. The campaign started on 1 August 2008.
