BANGKOK, 19 February 2014 The Government Savings Bank (GSB) is operating quietly compared to yesterday’s frantic withdrawals from customers. Employees, on the other hand, are dressed in black.
The GSB headquarters at Saphan Khwai is today operating as usual. Customers have not made large amounts of cash withdrawals compared to yesterday’s scenario. Deposits and withdrawal figures have been reported to be relatively the same.
Employees, however, are still dressed in black to show their disagreement with the bank’s action to extend its lending to the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC).
The 2-day cash withdrawals by customers have been estimated to reach 70 billion baht. The director of the bank has resigned in response.
