NAKHON PHANOM, 12 December 2014 The Governor of Nakhon Phanom has stated that the province is highly capable to set up the special economic zone due its short distance to both Laos and Vietnam.
The governor of Nakhon Phanom Adisak Thepart today attended the seminar on the topic of ‘The Investment Trend in the Special Economic Development Zone in Nakhon Phanom province’.
He said that Nakhon Phanom has a high potential to be developed as a special economic zone thanks to the third Thai-Laos Friendship Bridge which connects Thailand to Laos and further to Vietnam and Southern China.
In the 2014 fiscal year, the province has generated the border-area trade value at around 70 billion baht, which is increasing at a rapid rate of 100.73 percent when compared to the trade-value of the 2013 fiscal year, said the governor.
Nakhon Phanom is considered one of the key trading gateways of Thailand as it has the shortest route to the Phoukhyo specific economic zone and the Thakhek specific economic zone of Laos PDR, and connected to major economic zones in the central and northern part of Vietnam to the southern part of China.
The government of Thailand has approved the plan to develop Nakhon Phanom province as a special economic development zone during the second phase, of which the development procedures are expected to start by 2016.
