The government has successfully secured the release of four Thai fishermen who were captured by Somali pirates five years ago.

The men, identified as Kosol Duangmakerd, Channarong Nawara, Ton Wiyasing and Thanakorn Kaewkamkong, were among 24 crew members of the Taiwan-flagged fishing boat named FV Prantaley which was hijacked in April 2010. Six of the crew members died of illnesses and 14 others from Myanmar were freed.

The government attributed the release of the four fishermen to tireless efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and related agencies. The men have returned to their home country.
