BANGKOK, 25 December 2013 – His Majesty the King has assigned the Rajaprajanugroh Foundation under the Royal Patronage to visit people affected by the cold spell in the North and floods in the southern region.
In Soi Dao district in the northern province of Chiang Mai, representatives of the foundation yesterday distributed blankets to 1,000 families. According to the provincial data, more than 30,000 people are being affected by the cold weather and 21,000 more blankets are needed for distribution to affected families.
In Muang district, Mae Hong Son Province, the foundation also distributed blankets to people suffering from the cold. The province has announced all the seven districts as disaster zones because of the cold spell. About 100,000 people are caught up in plummeting winter temperatures of sub 15 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, in the southern province of Ranong, the Rajaprajanugroh Foundation took packages of necessities and consumer goods to be distributed to flood affected people in Kraburi district. All the seven tambons in the district are heavily inundated following consecutive downpours over the past few days, causing damages to farmland and public properties as well as hardship to 2,500 people.
