BANGKOK, 24 July 2013 The industrial sector of Thailand has seen 632 billion baht worth of investment in the past six months, with over 1,000 projects requesting for support from the Board of Investment of Thailand (BOI).
According to Industry Minister Prasert Boonchaisuk, the total investment value in the industrial sector in the first six months of 2013 stood at 632.8 billion baht, adding that 1,055 projects requested support from the BOI. The number of requests was an increase of 5.8 percent compared to the same period last year, with the value of all projects combined accounting for a 47 percent increase year on year.
The statistics also showed that most of the projects requesting for support in the first half were those worth between 20-200 million baht each, totaling 38.9 billion baht in combined value. The highest combined value, however, belonged to projects worth over 1 billion baht each, which numbered 104 and accounted for nearly 480 billion baht.
He further revealed that the majority of investments requesting for support were in the service and public utility industries, accounting for 302 billion baht, an incredible jump of 190 percent year-on-year; such as air transport, natural gas production, biomass power generation, and product distribution.
