A variety of other paints also were introduced, including the Gardex Premium Gloss, which is a high-quality, low-odor enamel specially formulated for wood and metal surfaces. It has anti-fungal and anti-rust properties and is suitable for both interior and exterior use.

Jotun is taking steps to protect property and is also taking even more action to protect the environment. The “Jotun GreenSteps” initiative is making a significant difference, Prasit said.

Efforts include waste and hazardous materials reduction, product innovations that reduce energy usage, new processes that lower the carbon footprint, and creating more products with lower volatile organic compound emissions.

Jotun is actively working internally and with industry peers and raw-material suppliers to reduce the concentration and quantity of hazardous substances in their products as well. It has carried out a research project together with suppliers, customers, universities and research institutes, financed by the Research Council of Norway, and taken an active part in the regulatory process in the EU.

The motto of “Reduce, Reuse and Recycle” is being applied in all of Jotun’s operations, including waste from offices as well as production. Reducing and disposing of chemical waste is a major focus area. Obsolete goods are a major contributor to chemical waste at Jotun, which is why it is focusing on reworking and disposing in a more environmentally friendly way.

Jotun’s Hull Performance Solution is ideal for boats and vessels. More than 6,000 vessels are painted with its SeaQuantum products which has a top silyl acrylate technology.

During the last decade, Jotun has developed the next generation of silyl technology antifouling: the silyl methacrylate antifouling. It also has developed a credible and fully transparent method for analyzing and quantifying the relationship between hull performance and fuel economy.
