BANGKOK, 25 March 2013 Finance Minister Kittiratt Na Ranong and former Finance Minister Korn Chatikavanij are schueduled to debate on stage on the topic of the economy next month.
The debate titled “The Future of the Thai Economy” is scheduled for April 18 at the Shangri-La Hotel Bangkok, and will be the first formal debate between the incumbent and the shadow finance minister.
The event is organized by Nation Multimedia Group, which owns ‘The Nation’, an English-language daily and ‘Nation Channel, a satellite television channel.
The minister and the shadow minister have not seen eye to eye on several economic policies, the latest being the government’s plan to borrow 2.2 trillion baht for mega-infrastructure projects, which the shadow minister claimed would push Thailand’s public debt to an unacceptable level — the claim that the finance minister has repeatedly rejected.
