BANGKOK, 16 September 2015- The Ministry of Commerce has said manufacturers, retailers and department stores would consider lowering commodity prices next week, following the falling fuel prices and the ailing economy.
According to Director-General of the Department of Internal Trade Boonyarit Kalayanamit, the move came after a huge drop in public spending, reflecting the current economic situation. Business operators would next week meet and discuss which items to be discounted, before sending a comprehensive list to the department.
The products expected to be discounted include cement, construction materials, steel, cooking oil and canned food, to name a few.
The Director-General also asked retailers, department stores and convenience stores to lower their fees for manufacturers in order to help the latter shouldering the costs incurred from the planned price reduction
