Pattaya joined with the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society to improve the city’s technological foundation.

Mayor Anan Charoenchasri chaired an April 11 meeting on city development with Pattaya department chiefs and a Digital Economy Ministry official.

He said the ministry selected Pattaya as well as Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket and Khon Kaen as pilot cities for a “smart city” project that would allow modern technology to be used for payments, logistics and developing small businesses.

The government plans to invite leading technology companies from Japan, the U.S., Europe and China to invest in innovation and new technologies, including artificial intelligence, data centers and more in the East.

At the meeting officials laid out plans to consider and describe how the digital economy can help improve tourism and generate revenue.
