BANGKOK, 9 September 2015 – The Ministry of Commerce has responded to Deputy PM Somkid Jatusripitak’s concern for consumers by issuing measures aimed at regulating goods prices and cost of living.
According to Commerce Minister Apiradee Tantraporn, the measures will give officials more authority to examine the price structures of over 200 necessary items in the ministry’s list more efficiently.
Mrs. Apiradee said Deputy PM Somkid instructed the Ministry of Commerce to urgently look into consumer product prices since most of them remained high despite the fact that the transport cost had lowered by 9.5 percent.
Under the new measures, high-ranking officials from the Ministry of Commerce will lead teams of inspectors to visit outlets in different areas without prior notification throughout September. The move is to search for unscrupulous operators and penalize them.
Meanwhile, consumers experiencing overcharging operators can call the ministry’s hotline 1569 round the clock.
