BURIRAM, 9 July 2014 – Officials in Buriram found more than 3,000 bags of sub-par rice, suspecting the grains have been stored for too long.
Military officers led Nang Rong District administrative officials and representatives of the Public Warehouse Organization and a quality surveying company to inspect a rice warehouse in the district. The stockpile includes 40,000 bags of broken-milled Hom Mali fragrance rice belonging to a private company which won a government rice auction and was destined for export.
The inspection found that more than 3,000 bags contain rice of sub-par quality and no less than 10,000 bags have been in deteriorated conditions.
A representative from the rice quality surveying company, Somchai Larprittidet, said the rice has been stored for over 2 years, which is likely the reason behind the regressing quality.
He said Buriram has 7 warehouses, stocking over 360,000 bags, which are now under recounting and inspection.
