BANGKOK, 10 September 2011 – The government’s policies to boost the public spending could push motorcycle sales up to two million units this year, according to Kasikorn Reseach Center.
As many as 1.2 million motorcycles have been sold over the past seven months, representing a 15.5 percent increase from the same period last year.
July saw a sharp drop of 19.7 percent in sales from June due to heavy floods in many provinces.
While natural disaster has affected the motorcycle industry, Kasikorn Research Center is positive that the government’s plans to raise incomes and promote spending among the grassroots, including the cuts in fuel prices should help improve the sales.
The center speculates that the market could see a growth of 11-16 percent this year. About two million motorbikes are expected to be sold.
