BANGKOK, 15 January 2013  The country’s telecom regulator has resolved to agree with the proposal to hand out financial support to millions of Thai viewers during the transition from analog to digital broadcast system.

The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC)’s Vice Chairman Col. Natee Sukolrat said on Monday that the NBTC meeting has voted 3 to 1 to support the proposed distribution of coupons to 22 million households to help them purchase the set-top boxes for receiving digital TV.

The coupon was designed to replace cash handout and to be used in obtaining discount for the purchase of the new equipment, needed for the country’s shifting from the current analog to digital system.

Col. Natee said that the detail of the approved coupon plan will be released after the NBTC has determined the starting frequency bid price for interested digital TV providers.

He reckoned that the actual distribution of the discount coupon will be executed around July of this year.
