BANGKOK, Oct 21 – Thailand’s car sales volume dropped last month by 28.4 per cent to around 94,900 units for the fifth consecutive month year-on-year.

Wuttikorn Suriyachantananont, executive vice president of Toyota Motors (Thailand), said sales of passenger cars dropped 30.7 per cent to 47,300 units, commercial vehicles 26 per cent to 47,600 units.

He said the reasons why the car sales volume dropped were partly due to delays in car delivery in flooded areas and delays in customers’ decisions to wait for new car models launched by several companies this month.

Sales for the first nine months of this year reached more than 1.03 million units, a 3.4-per cent growth year-on-year. The accumulated number of passenger cars sold stood at 497,000 units, an increase of 10.3 per cent, and commercial vehicles at 536,000 units or a drop of 2.3 per cent.

Mr Wuttikorn said car sales market this month tended to remain steady.
