A new Excise Tax Act will come into effect this September according to the Excise Department.
Somchai Poolsavasdi, the Director-General of the Excise Department, has made known that the newly-drafted Excise Tax Act which is a combination of seven excise duty regulations was publicized in the Royal Gazette on March 20th and will be enacted 180 days after the publication, which is September 16th of this year.
The Director-General says the new law will allow officials to collect duty on alcohol and tobacco more effectively, transparently, and in accordance with international standards. The enactment will be followed by the promulgation of 80 organic laws.
Lastly, the Director-General assured the public that consumers are not affected by the new law.
