BANGKOK, 12 March 2014  The Commerce Ministry has postponed the rice auction through the Agricultural Futures Exchange of Thailand due to new threats from the People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC).

The Department of Internal Trade has revealed that the group has occupied the ministry compound and cut its power, disrupting the planned auction.

The auction will be held again on March 26 and as much as 250,000 tons of rice will be auctioned off.

The process is expected to be a vital element to help alleviate financial rows between the government and the farmers.
