The Norwegian Seamen’s Church broke ground on a new chapel on Thappraya Soi 5, its third location since its 2005 founding.
Pastors from the Norwegian Church Abroad presided over the Sept. 17 ceremony to cast models for the main post and held a mass for good luck.
The current church has been located at 162/50 Moo 10, Thappraya Soi 7 in Jomtien Beach since 2007 after opening a rock’s throw away two years previous. The new church is just 100 meters away on Thappraya Soi 5. Its construction is sponsored by Thais and Norwegian benefactors under supervision of SAT Group Co.
Ground-clearing at the Soi 5 site began in October 2016 with expectations the new church would be open by 2018. Its opening is now anticipated for April.
