Over 50,000 Thais died of cancer each year

BANGKOK, 26 March 2012  – According to the Public Health Ministry, over 50,000 Thais die of cancer each year. 

Public Health Minister Witthaya Buranasiri has revealed that cancer is now the world’s number-one killer, claiming 7.6 million lives each year and the number is increasing.

According to the Minister, cancer is also the leading cause of death in Thailand, which killed over 58,000 people in 2010.

At the moment, the Ministry has been campaigning to urge people to change their eating habits, suggesting that they reduce sweet, salty, and oily food, and eat more vegetables. It also encourages people to exercise regularly and refrain from drinking alcoholic beverages and smoking.
