PATTANI, 19 Jan 2015, – Pattani’s Employment Office has warned Thai laborers to check the credentials of employment agencies before leaving the country to work in Lao PDR.
The Chief of the Pattani Employment Office Chuanchom Bua-anon, revealed that rogue employment agencies have reportedly been luring local workers to go to work in construction projects in Laos, guaranteeing those job seekers higher wages than are offered in Thailand.
She said the swindlers usually target laborers from the North and the Northeast.
The Office has found that the offer of higher pay is more often than not a false promise. She thus warned all laborers to be extra careful, as they could fall victim to a scam and be at risk of being abandoned, should they go to Laos with these rogue agents.
She also advised Thais looking for work in the neighboring nation to do so only legally. They can contact her Office at 073-460-281 to make more inquiries or gain more information, or to inform officials of these rogue employment agencies.
Alternately, they can also reach the Office of Labor Protection at 02-245-6763, or the Department of Employment on 1694, Ms. Chuanchom added.
