BANGKOK, 19 July 2015 -According to Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha, South Korea would buy 50 million U.S. dollars worth of frozen chicken from Thailand this year and would seek to increase the import value to 500 U.S. dollars a year eventually.

The target was set during a meeting between Prime Minister Prayut and Korea Importers Association (KOIMA) Chairman Shinn Taeyong, at Government House.

The Prime Minister revealed that the purpose of Chairman Shinn’s visit is to conduct a market survey, as the association is looking to import additional raw materials from Thailand. Currently South Korea imports only 6 categories of raw materials from the Kingdom.

General Prayut also indicated that Thai agricultural exports, such as sugar, were showing a better sign which might result from a tax-free policy. He also vowed to talk to Thailand’s trading partners, in order to boost the nation’s export sector.

Nonetheless, Prime Minister Prayut said the long-standing relationship between Thailand and South Korea would make bilateral negotiations easier. General Prayut was confident that the local economy would soon recover.
