BANGKOK, 5 May 2012 – The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has invited the Thai prime minister to attend an international summit, scheduled for early next year.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has extended an invitation to Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra to the Delhi Sustainable Development Summit (DSDS), which will take place in India in early 2013.
The invitation was extended during the PM’s meeting with the IPCC chairman and the chairman of the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) in Bangkok.
The IPCC chairman stated that the invitation was made as the Panel has seen the Thai government’s efficient handling of last year’s flood crisis.
At the meeting, the IPCC chairman has presented PM Yingluck a copy of “The Special Report on Managing Risks of Extreme Events and Disasters to Advance Climate Change Adaptation (SREX)”, which he hopes the Thai government will find useful for its policies on the prevention of natural disasters and the impact of climate change.
