NONTHABURI, 20 May 2015 – Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha emphasized serious cooperation among the government, private sector and farmers to push forward the country’s strategic plans and policy in rice trading. The Prime Minister made the speech while presiding over the opening ceremony of Thailand Rice Convention 2015 held on Wednesday at IMPACT, Muang Thong Thani, Nonthaburi.
Gen Prayut said that the government policy seeks to increase the competitiveness of Thai rice in the global market as well as in ASEAN. He mentioned the need to study the trends of demand and supply of Thai rice in order to develop a proper plan of rice-based products.
He explained that seven action plans have been formulated to push the Thai rice strategy, including a plan for sustainable rice development, improvement of fairness in rice trading system, standardization of rice production, promotion of rice-based innovations as well as the use of strict control and inspection at all stages of the rice production and supply chain.
The Thailand Rice Convention 2015 was opened on 19 May and is to end on Thursday 21 May 2015. It is part of the government’s efforts to convey outstanding royal contributions to rice development of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn on occasion of her 5th cycle birthday on 2 April 2015.
