BANGKOK, 16 June 2012  – The state-run PR body is set to prepare civil servants for the realization of the ASEAN Economic Community (ASEAN).

The Public Relations Department (PRD) Director-General Teerapong Sodasri said that the PRD has started a training program to help its staff get ready for a more liberalized ASEAN when the AEC is realized in 2015.

The training, which took off on Friday with more than 100 PRD officers and staff, focused on ASEAN-related knowledge, which is essential for the Department’s PR tasks and educational mission aimed at Thais at all levels.

Prior to the start of the training, the PRD has set up the National ASEAN News Center, while the PRD Director-General has been appointed member of the National ASEAN Committee and to chair the Public Relations Subcommittee on the ASEAN Community.

In the near future, The Thai government’s Public Relations Department is set to set up a working group and to allocate more budgets to promote the education of ASEAN languages and English for both its staff and the public.
