BANGKOK, 6 October 2013 – As the annual vegetarian festival has kicked off nationwide, prices of fruits and vegetables have slightly increased, while markets across Bangkok come alive.

The survey has found that many Chinese-Thais are spending more during the vegetarian festival despite 5-10 baht increase in fruit and vegetable prices. However, prices of fruit and vegetables this year are still lower than last year.

In Huai Khwang Market, Chinese cabbages and morning glory cost 35 baht per kilogram, radishes cost 25 baht per kilo, while bitter gourds and Chinese kale are priced at around 40 baht per kilogram.

Despite the price increase, consumers said it was acceptable as the prices did not increase much, plus it is normal that the fruit and vegetables will cost more during the vegetarian season.
