BANGKOK, 30 August 2011 -The Department of Internal Trade is carrying out its monthly inspection on jasmine rice in Bangkok and the surrounding provinces to make sure manufacturers maintain the quality of their product.

Each month rice sample is sent to the lab at the Bureau of Rice Research and Development in Pathum Thani Province for quality test. According to the DIT Director Mrs. Watcharee Wimooktayanon, once the quality of rice has been verified, manufacturers of the approved products will be able to display the DIT symbol featuring the Thai ‘wai’ gesture on their rice packages.

The samples taken in July from various brands have been proven to be 100% jasmine rice with no chemical traces or other types of rice mixed in the product. Brands that have quality proven consist of Aero, Kulathong, Thaithai, T.N.S, Dok Bua, Dok Bua Baan, Hong Thong, Home Fresh Mart, Som O, Hanuman, Planchai, Konhabkhao, Somsainumpueng Khu, Thip-uthai, Nokpirab and Krataithong Khu.
